All sports organisations and academies have a duty of care to safeguard all children and young athletes, including elite athletes being cared for and accommodated in a home-away-from-home. There is also a duty of care to ensure that safeguarding measures are put in place to protect and support adults working with children and young people in sport.
Providing a safe, inclusive, secure, supportive, and nurturing environment for elite athletes, and care and accommodation providers is of the upmost importance when developing and implementing government standards, policies and procedures, and designing, implementing, and reviewing more local club values and expectations around care and accommodation.
Environment and player care plays a significant role in developing the mindsets of young and elite athletes, while at the same time supports mental health and wellbeing, and player development. All of which collectively play an important role in supporting individuals to fulfilling their playing and personal development potential.
It is important for sports organisations and clubs to prioritise and continuously review the delivery of care and accommodation/host family services. Training your host families to meet the needs of elite athletes being hosted in their family homes will ensure that your organisation is compliant and meets the standards outlined by your sports governing body and those who audit your hosting provisions on behalf of your governing body.

TRAINING
PROFESSIONAL SPORTS CARERS TRAINING
A three-hour continuing professional development group training workshop specifically designed for single and multi-occupancy care and accommodation providers (host families) that care for elite athletes in the family home, and for those responsible for delivering day-to-day care and accommodation in an Academy House.
This bespoke group training workshop is often commissioned by the board level member of staff, often the Director for Safeguarding and Inclusion, with overall leadership responsibility for club safeguarding, and/or the Academy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Each workshop is personalised to ensure compliancy with national and local government policies, procedures and guidelines for care and accommodation, more specifically Professional Sports Carers (PSCs) accommodating elite athletes, hosting and providing a home-away-from-home. The objective being to ensure the statutory guidance and best practice set out by the governing body of each specific sport is adhered to and delivered in a safe and inclusive way.
Our training ensures that these standards are delivered in line with the more personalised and local core values and expectations of each individual professional sports club. Ensuring that Safeguarding and athlete welfare are embedded and at the core of day-to-day service delivery

INTRODUCTION TO BEING A PROFESSIONAL SPORTS CARER
A 90 minute online training course designed as an introduction to being a Professional Sports Carer (PSC), and the care and accommodation of elite athletes. potential host parent(s)/families.
This course introduces the role and responsibilities of being a Professional Sports Carer, and the responsibilities that come with caring for and hosting elite athletes in the family home on behalf of professional sports organisations. As an example, this course is a good introduction for those wishing to explore the idea of hosting local football Academy Players.
Those who attend will be given a unique and well informed training experience, with the space to reflect and explore on if they are suited to hosting elite athletes/academy players in their family home.
SERVICE REVIEWS
PROACTIVELY PREPARING FOR REVIEWS AND AUDITS
We support sports organisations to be proactive in reviewing their care and accommodation services, and in preparation for external audits.
It is good practice to commission an independent organisation to support your service review in preparation for your annual safeguarding audits.
Independent service reviews are a valuable contribution to your official annual safeguarding inspections and audits carried out by external agencies.
